1970 Fonseca Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

Tasted at Andy's Los Angeles/O.C. Offline with Oscar Quevedo.

1970 Fonseca Vintage Port

Color: Very dark ruby/garnet. Looks fairly opaque, but light is poor.
Nose: Dark, aged, red fruits. Some dust. Black fruit. Some alcohol.
Palate: Heat, sweet, tannins. Good acidity and tannins.
Finish: Moderate to good length, still with good grip. Notes somewhat incomplete, as this was the 9th Port of the evening. :drunk:

Score: 93 points. Not as good as I expected given the hype, and I have to say that I'm still firmly in the Taylor camp for this vintage.

I'm wondering if the decanting time was long enough. My opinion is that this needs at least 8 hours of decanting and is actually best the next day.
