1937 Quinta do Noval Colheita Port

Post by Glenn E. »

From the FTLOP 5th Anniversary Party at the Holiday Inn Issaquah, July 31, 2010.

I was having an off palate night, possibly caused by dinner at Cucina Cucina, so my ratings were significantly lower than everyone else's. In some cases I have reverted back to my initial impressions because, in retrospect, those seem more appropriate given how others were scoring.

1937 Noval Colheita
bottled 2008

Color: Very dark tawny, almost brown.
Nose: Powerful. An animal compared to the previous Ports in the flight. Toasted caramel.
Palate: Huge and strong. Dries your cheeks. Excellent acidity. Toffee.
Finish: Very long, good heat. Mellows over time.

Score: 93 points. My Port of the night, but still a disappointing showing (presumably due to my off palate) given what I've read about it.
