1947 Kopke Colheita Port

Post by Glenn E. »

From the FTLOP 5th Anniversary Party at the Holiday Inn Issaquah, July 31, 2010.

I was having an off palate night, possibly caused by dinner at Cucina Cucina, so my ratings were significantly lower than everyone else's. In some cases I have reverted back to my initial impressions because, in retrospect, those seem more appropriate given how others were scoring.

1947 Kopke Colheita
bottled 2006

Color: Medium dark tawny, yellow-green at the rim.
Nose: Tangy, very slight VA, some vanilla, and some black pepper.
Palate: Lemon, very good acidity, coffee, and something a bit like Mellow Yellow. A little too tart for me.
Finish: Shortish, but not short. Good warmth. A nice Port for sipping.

Score: 91 points. An interesting start to the second flight due to its tartness. Some almost madeira-like qualities in that respect.
