1980 Offley Boa Vista Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (4/23/2011)
This bottle had a base neck fill and the cork was clearly failing on one side. Upon initial decanting, the alcohol heat was very evident and the wine was quite sweet, with great fruit showing. The color was brick red with a bit of browning. After 5 hours in the decanter, the alcohol had calmed down considerably. The sweetness had also reduced a bit and the wine had a dry finish very much like a typical Dow port. A very pleasant drink. More to come. (88 pts.)
