Opened for the February 2014 Virtual Tasting. As I recall, this bottle came back from Portugal with me after the 2010 Port Harvest Tour. The 2009 bottling date at least doesn't contradict that possibility.
Andresen 20-yr Old Tawny
Color: A nice, rich amber/tawny with significant orange overtones. Red highlights. Just the faintest hint of green as it fades through yellow to clear at the rim.
Nose: Complex dried fruits led by dried apricot and backed by dried apple and faint prunes. There's a fruity caramel-like tone to the whole thing. Some vanilla and confectioner's sugar. Possibly some dried banana or dried pineapple. Some toasted grain, possibly oats, rounds things out.
Palate: Full and sweet on entry. Rich brown sugar, or maybe it's more of a caramelized sugar like what you might find on a pineapple/apricot upside down cake. A bit of harshness as you swallow that seems to come from the alcohol.
Finish: Just a hint of black pepper followed by tart to almost bitter fruits. Calms down a bit midway through, then returns to a bitter edge as it tails off. Medium length. The finish is the weakest component here and drags the score down a point or so.
Score: 92 points. A very nice and well-rounded 20-yr old tawny. Excellent by itself, but also pairs very well with cheese or - surprisingly - dark chocolate.

The comment on the finish rings v true.
Wish one could combine the finish of the Ferreira w the fullness in mouth of the Andresen and keep it in the same price point!
