Multi: 1962 Offley Vintage Port & 1975 Noval Vintage Port

Post by simon Lisle »

I bought 6 bottles of this 62 wine 3 from one source and three from a merchant.I have had two bottles from the merchant and Tom has the other. The second bottle was nowhere near as sweet as the first but still easily a portuguese style port.I tasted this alongside a bottle of Adams wine merchant 63 vintage port,The branding on the cork was unclear but I'm certain this was a royal oporto which is the best I've owned and drank. It was very close between the two very simialar styles but the 62 shaded it(maybe I was influenced after the first one). Now for the Noval 75 promising colour how I remembered it.But what a let down I remember it being light in style with juice this was light but faded and etheral no improvement over 24 hours.reminded me of an A Pintos do Santos I had fairly recently 1970 which was simialar

Simon,

Thanks for the tasting notes - especially the Noval '75. I have often had doubts about buying this wine and I am now very glad that I didn't.
