The story goes that this wine was set aside C.1934 by a family member for a girl he was in love with. The romance terminated and the port was ignored until recently. Some was bottled when rediscovered; then it was used to blend into this wine.
The color is faded yellow into burnt orange. It has the look and aroma of a bourdon. Hints of orange zest and dry nuts--like a brazil nut. There is a citrusy quality to it without the stark acidity. Touches of toffee and lemon--and occasionally lightly burnt sugar; the finish is short and dry, yet there is a pleasant sweetness. Comes off as very warm....it really feels akin to a sweet bourbon in some ways. Moderate weight, well balanced, fresh and vibrant. Hard to score--there is no reference point as it is so different.
