NV DR 20 Year Old (Quinta da Levandeira de Roncão) Tawny Port

Post by Rune EG »

Bottled 2015. Decanted 1 hr. Medium dark brown colour. Aroma of wood, citrus and some bakery. Full body. First impression on the palate is very elegant, then some power, “round” style of citrus/wood, some herbs. Nice balance sweetness/acidity. Tiny bit bitterness (orange peel) towards the end. Long aftertaste. 92 pts.

Rune,

So do you prefer this 20 year old or that of S. Leonard more?

What is your #1 20 year old Tawny Port?
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

Not an easy question Roy.
There are more and more producers that are making very good 20 yrs tawnies.
If it had been a horse race, it would have been a lot of "horses" on the photo finish, meaning it is very close between many.
In my opinion Bulas is "a nose" in front, followed closely by the three producers Mourao / DR / Blackett.
Latter three being fairly similar in style. Then very shortly after them I rank Ferreira, Ramos Pinto and Andresen.
