1966 Messias Colheita [b. 2008]
Decanted for 7½ hours before being consumed after an absolutely divine Father’s Day dinner where I got to show off my culinary talents (or pretend I had some) to the wife.
Light brown and tawny orange colour with slight hints of rose throughout. Viscous, thick yet clear tears run down the sides of the glass with a very minute hint of brown. When held at an angle some yellow appears near the edges with a clear meniscus.
Immediately the nose of caramel, maple syrup and vanilla promised great things. Some wood aromas lingered and a slight amount of spirit in the nose at decanting time disappeared after an hour and was gone by the time we were drinking.
Exceptionally smooth with vanilla, caramel and a complex palate with multiple flavours involved, some that were not quite identifiable. Some orange peel showed up late to the game on days 2 and 3 and was pronounced enough for me to make a distinct note on it. A bit of grip is present and it grabs the attention and lingers around for a long time. This Port has a very long finish, well over 45 seconds and I was still tasting its complex array of flavours, which only served to make my mouth water for more.
This is a fabulous Colheita, definitely the oldest I have tried and both myself and my wife enjoyed it immensely. It declined in days 2 and 3 a tad, and the alcohol became a bit pronounced, but I am ashamed to say that there was indeed a single small glass left to determine on day 4 that the alcohol seemed to have blown off.

Sounds like an awesome bottle! I guess I'll have to budget for that 1964 Messias that I saw.

I doubt you will be disappointed.Glenn E. wrote:Sounds like an awesome bottle! I guess I'll have to budget for that 1964 Messias that I saw.
For the bottle I had, I thought it was best in the early hours. day 2-3 were a bit spirity, but not so bad as to degrade the Port that much.

Todd,
Glad you finally had a Port that was older than you!
Excellent note and the picture too. Please do add that photo to PORTraits when you have a moment. That bottle is not one that is very popular, so it would be great to have in the database!
Thanks.

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

Yes, it was a good Colheita, although you and I shared the Taylor '63 and '70 which were both older than me... but this was the first bottle that I could afford to PURCHASE that was older than me!Roy Hersh wrote:Todd,
