An excellent 40 year old.
Quite dark with translucent green-amber rim.
Not a heavy weight, but beautiful balance. Has Barbieto's signature acidity. One can tell there is quite a bit of very old wine giving depth and complexity. Ricardo used almost 10% of 1880 in the blend. and it shows.
94 points on this occasion.
I had my hand on that H&H from 1957 too and almost opened it, but wanted to try the same grape and year from a producer that I've not experienced before.
Try not to drink too much of it before you get here young man. Table is all set and ready to go. I hope everyone will show up for dinner on time. Then comes the real drinking. It has been too long since I had more than one Madeira at a time. Since May, in fact. That is just pathetic. Tonight we'll make for that, with the rest of the local group.

How was your H&H?
Roy,
The best post-WW2 boal that I have had. I'll be looking for more.
I have been drinking it next to Barbeito 1978 and 1982. The H&H is drier than both of the Barbeito wines, has a longer finish, and is much richer.
RWC Porto Moniz Verdelho.
I love this wine. I think as good as the Fernandes over 40 year old, but a much different style. The Fernandes is austere and steely and all about structure. This is richer, a more classic style.

I love this one as well, Eric. According to my notes, the blend contains 6.7% of the 1880.
