Madeira Tasting in San Francisco - May 17-19, 2013

Post by Barry Sunderland »

I loved the incredible citric zest of the 1968 D'Oliveiras....

So, I've tried to put on a Madeira tasting with a D'Oliveiras 1908, but there is no interest on WineBeserkers. [dash1.gif]

PLEASE ! How can I find a Madeira tasting where I can be exposed to some Madeira classics...or even near classics? [beg.gif]

Heck, even non-classics!!!

Roy? Eric? Richard? Anyone? [shok.gif]

Thanks!

Yes that's tough... even in the Bay Area. My advice is to go on one of Roy's tours to Madeira. I knew very little about Madeira until I visited it. The trip was amazing!

Roy, any plans for a Madeira roadshow?? [beg.gif]

I'm pretty booked up until the fall. I'd be happy to show up sometime in the Bay Area with a good bottle or two or three. I just need to get my schedule in order!

Let's talk about possible dates. How about right after Thanksgiving in early Dec? I would be happy to arrange a fun tasting in SF with nice bottles for a Madeira loving group!

Oooooooo, now we're talking! We've got almost zero experience with Madeira, but SF is so close, we'd almost certainly be up for making the drive. While there's nothing we could bring from our cellar, I'm sure we could arrange to sponsor a bottle from someone else's cellar (or retailer).

That would be FABULOUS, everyone. Over the next few months, beforehand, I would be able to cut my teeth on some more Madeira!

I'll be in SF the last couple of days in October and first few days (weekend) of November. If an event is planned at that time...I'd love to be there and bring wine that will compliment the tasting.

I'd probably need a couple months notice to keep my schedule open.

Depending on work, and with enough advanced notice, I may be able to make this.

Add me to the list.
Typically we do a "Xmas Shopping' trip to New York in December, but I've already visited NY a couple of times this year (once for a Madeira tasting...), so we were already thinking LA anyway - again need notice and November is not possible.

I live in LA, but have been known to travel quite a distance for an hour or two of madeira tasting (across the country?). and SF is therefore basically my backyard!

I would only need a month or two advance notice and I'm there. mid-November thru the Thanksgiving holidays are tough for me, but otherwise, I'm open to anything. With enough notice, I'd be happy to attend and contribute!

Looking forward to it already!
Cheers,
Mark

I'm free just about every weekend. To make this is a FTLOP event, we need Roy's calendar so then we may start booking a venue...
