This is a 30 year malvasia blend. AKA nectar of the gods, IMHO. According to the label on my bottles, Barbeito made 1,550 bottles in 2007 and promised not to make another 30 year malvasia for ten years. If I were rich, this would be my house wine.

6 x 1954 H&H malmsey at auction. Bottled in 1986 (back label) or 1987 (front label).

Very nice. Smooth, well integrated, moderate finish. I hope that the rest are this good.

Barry, I'm glad to see that you decided to get the 1912. I think you will love it. One of the best of the 20th century in my opinion. [cheers.gif]

Eric,

Last night, I decanted the Barbeito Malvasia Favilla Viera 1950, and it was quite electric, vibrant, rich, yet refreshing. I dig. Big time. I drank it alongside the '82 Barbeito Boal, which was a winner last week, YET compared to the '50, it wasn't even close...

Two days later, the '50 has expanded more in the horizontal girth department, showing its true, unctious Malvasia colors. Even though the acidity isn't as pronounced as Day 1, this Madeira is still VERY balanced. YUM.

Remember this in 25 years or so; 2012 is a great year for Madeira wine!
