1986 oliveros verdelho madeira

Post by Charles Porter »

I just ordered the bottle and was wondering what if/any impressions people have with this vintage? Should I wait to open it, or give it a whirl?

New to Madeira... feel free to weigh in.

I had this bottle in 2016... candidly, I was ambivalent about it. It was easy to drink, perhaps a good introduction to madeira, but you could find cheaper blends like the RWC Savannah Verdelho and be just as happy. I received another bottle for Christmas, will post if my experience is any different. For $40 less you can pick up the 1995 D'Oliveira Old Wine Madeira which is excellent.

Re-visiting this post as I opened the xmas bottle 10 days ago... Razor sharp acid on opening, but after a day+ decanting it's quite lovely and balanced, not at all like I remembered. Still a pricey bottle, but if you love verdelho, you won't be disappointed. [cheers.gif]
