Restaurants in Douro region to help travelers

Post by Roy Hersh »

Have you found any new restaurants to recommend in the Douro region, beyond DOC, Douro In, Vintage House and LBV79 that really stand out?

It's not new... but I miss "Castas e Pratos" in your list... Their duck is absolutely marvelous - and the wine list is of course the real reason to go there...
If I want a fantastic octopus, then the restaurant at Quinta da Pacheca comes immediately to my mind...

When was the last time you were at Castas e Pratos? I ask as some of us were there last month and the food quality was no where near the same level as it used to be in the past. The wine list is also not what it used to be, as the really cool 'geeky' wines are mostly gone and replaced by average quality mass produced wines. Our group agreed not worth going back to, given the prices, unless they change things around. A real shame as it was one of my favorite places in the past.

The question remains, beyond the "usual suspects" what restaurants have you tried up in the Douro Valley that are worth exploring?
