1983 Vintage Port - 30 Year Retrospective

It is going to be all the way up in the mid-50's. Cool. At least we can wear shorts on that early summer day. Nice!

Today there was hail and the other night a brief moment of snow up in the mountains, so if it is nearly 60 that would be crazy nice. Glad it is going to still rain, I don't know what the hell we'd do with a tasting if it was a clear day and night. It just wouldn't seem right.

Wow, many of the bottles are now here ... a dozen to be exact, and this is going to be one heck of a fun time. So many beauties and likely 2-4 VP's that I would think none of the participants have ever tried!

Good reminder Bradley. People should come with food in their belly. Doing round one of a large Port tasting on an empty stomach isn't a good idea

We will ONLY have bread and water during the tasting and quite a few hours before we do dinner.

I've just learned that Carl and Phyllis will not be making the trip up here and they will both be missed!

That's a bummer. Does this mean we will be short two bottles? If so, it's going to be very hard to replace those on such short notice.

I'll ask now in case due to short notice...anyone have a Ferreira Sexio or a Ramos Pinto in their cellars they could and are willing to bring.

Spoke to Roy.....I've located a Ramos Pinto and I'm having it over-nighted to him. We need a Ferreira if anyone has one. I've not had luck finding one so far.

We're disappointed beyond words to have had to cancel at such a late hour, but with both of us knocked down by some kind of killer 24-hour bug earlier this week, it was the right choice.

We do have 3 1983 Ports here - perhaps we'll do a mini 1983 horizontal later this year or something. Or maybe they'll all survive for their 40-yr retrospective in 2023.

Enjoy all those Ports and write lots of tasting notes! We need to experience this vicariously through other people's notes if nothing else!
