Offline in Los Angeles Area May 1, 2015 -- POSTPONED

Post by Andy Velebil »

Ok folks,
As promised in the recent Buyer's Op thread lets plan a gathering here in Los Angeles. We can work out particulars in due course but we need to get a date firmed up ASAP.

I was thinking we could do a Friday night again at the Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch (Cal Poly Pomona University) as they have a free pick up and drop off for those arriving at Ontario Airport, there is a hotel walking distance across the parking lot so no driving is needed, and we can do dinner again in the awesome restaurant there. But we've got to work within the confines of the school quarter system hence the listed date (they aren't open on Saturdays for dinner) and my bike racing schedule.

I propose we due this on Friday May 1, 2015 That way Steve P. can hopefully make it and it's far enough out for people to plan. Let's limit it to 10 people for now as that keeps pours decent and is easier to manage.

What say all?

1- Andy
2- Steve P.
3- Mark L.
4. David Sm. 1970 Taylor VP

EDIT: This has been postponed so we can sort a different date and get more people.

Oh bummer, will be on my (much delayed) honeymoon that weekend. Folks should definitely take Andy up on his offer to experience the restaurant, as its a very cool experience.

OK, I spoke to soon as they have an event on the 29th. Checking on some other dates....

Here are our choices...

5/1, 5/15

I'm inclined to go with 5-15. That would give just about 5 weeks.

Mind you this doesn't need to be some super tasting. Even if we just get together with a loose plan for bottles, like something older than XXXX would work.

I'm on the east coast right this very moment and don't have my entire calendar in front of me, but for the moment I think the 15th would work great. (The 1st could probably work, too, but as with your preference, it would be my second choice.) Count me in!

Well that excludes me from coming as it is the day I land in PT for the Fortification Tour. But don't let that stop you guys if everyone can make it then.

Andy's events are always awesome. Don't miss this if you can make it!

I'm open for the 1st if that is what the majority of people can make.

Ok, lets go with May 1. It would just be the one evening as I've got plans for Saturday and can't do a full 2-day event.

Since we've only got a couple weeks, what do you all say to just bring a VP or Colheita 1970 or older??

Does that work for everyone?

I just checked the hotel website, and it says "No rates are available for the selected dates." [shrug.gif]

I'll likely also bring a bottle of Quinta do Frances (red): something I picked up and enjoyed while on our honeymoon about 6 years ago.

How many people are we expecting thus far?

Call them as I just did and made a reservation. I suspect their website has issues.

So far is three and waiting to hear from a couple others. Also posted it on Winebersekers as well so more people in the area see it.

I plan to get to the hotel around 3-ish to check in and relax. If others are planning on getting there early to check in or just want to avoid some later afternoon traffic let me know and I'll bring some bubbly to start the evening off. The rooms have balcony's so it should be a nice afternoon for some bubbly.

I just called the hotel and am good to go! I will also plan to arrive at around 3pm.

In addition to an older Colheita yet to be determined, I am happy to bring Champagne, and/or Burgundy (white and/or red). :drunk:

Thanks again, Andy.
