WTB: 1950 Terrantez

Post by Daniel Fraley »

If any of my madeira brethren is willing to part with a bottle of this, at a reasonable price, I'd love to try! [friends.gif] [cheers.gif] [beg.gif]

Cheers, Daniel

There are NO reasonable prices on that Barbeito. The price nowadays has doubled since it was released, $275 > $550 today. Are you willing to pay that?

More like tripled. The Rare Wine Co had a bottle a few months ago for $850.00.

And while Eric and I, (along with other fans) find this to be a stellar bottle of Terrantez ... not for the inflated price of $850 which has more to do with its scarcity nowadays than anything else. I have one lone bottle left, having opened a few of my earlier bottles with the family that owns Faja dos Padres, where this wine was originally harvested and vinified.

Would be willing to spend around $200 if the opportunity comes around. Perhaps someone out there bought a case and wants to share. :D

IIRC it was a lot more than that on release. So wishful thinking at that price.

Current auction price is $666, so it's very unlikely that you will see $200 ever again.

Maybe by the glass. :scholar:

As mentioned above, it was $275 .. and it was released in 2003, IIRC.

I have a copy of the 21 March 2006 RWC newsletter with the offer for 1950 Faja dos Padres terrantez. I bought one for $195. The next time I bought one was in 2008. I think the price was $395 then. They were bottled in 2002.

Does anyone know how many were bottled?

Yes, they were bottled in October 2002, that we know. You are prob right about the $195, as I may have bought my six at two different intervals. I know at one point, I bought 3 at $275. As for quantities, we'd have to ask Mannie or Ricardo.
