My Mother found this in a relative's home. Fill is mid-shoulder. T-Cork broke off. Stored upright but in a dark closet. Based on photos on the internet, looks to be c.1951--I see it listed for $10.76 for a bottle. Am curious as the label does say it may throw off a crust.
Certainly will open this with the Port fellows as an odd and curious experiment. I love these old labels, especially the text, on very old bottles.

Re: Found This--What do you think?
Cool find. Looks like a basic Ruby Port that was probably only very lightly fined and/or filtered back then, hence the disclaimer. I wouldn't expect it to be awesome given the type of Port, how it's been aged, and it's fill level. But I do hope it is still enjoyable and I look forward to reading how it was.

Quite a cool looking bottle. I agree, probably not one destined for the greatest tasting hall of fame, but hopefully it tastes as good as the label is cool!

Nice find..
Low end price tag bottles get lost to history, because no-one thinks to preserve them. A friend of mine collects old grocery items, like unopened rolls of 1950's toilet paper and cans of NHS orange juice from the same era - crazy on the one hand, but a fascinating exercise in the preservation of ephemera..

A hoarder might argue the same :-PTom Archer wrote:Collector - everything has it's place..Collector or Hoarder?
What makes you a collector is that you're regularly willing to part with bottles, at least for consumption purposes.

In my book, a collector knows his or her collection intimately and knows pretty much exactly where every item is.A hoarder might argue the same
A hoarder is someone who has a problem with chucking stuff out, and amasses ever growing stacks of junk and rubbish, with little idea as to what they own or where things are..

Oooh. That's not good. I only have a vague idea of what I own or where it is any I have never been able to make myself throw a bottle away once it is past its "best before" date.Tom Archer wrote:In my book, a collector knows his or her collection intimately and knows pretty much exactly where every item is.A hoarder might argue the same
