I have one or two of these, I think they're 2006, so. Good to hear the review. Are they peaked or could they use more time in the cellar?

They are really interesting right now Andy. It is complex, tannins are integrated, some young fruit is still there but with very nice complex herbal notes. I have 4 other bottles that I will drink every 2 years or so maximum.

I had a really nice bottle of 2012 Crasto Branco, two bottles of 2011 Esperao Branco Reserva (fantastic!), then reds: 2012 Crasto Douro, 2011 Crasto Old Vines Reserva followed by 2004 and 2008 Niepoort Charme. It was a good day of drinking Portuguese wines!

I managed to score a bottle of -
2010 Filipa Pato Vinho Licoroso - Espirito de Baga
http://www.filipapato.net/vinhos/show.a ... to-de-baga

I was hoping for something akin to "Baga Port", and I wasn't disappointed - rich, smooth, elegant, warm but not hot, and, best of all, tasting very much of Baga (my favourite caste).

I'm no-one to recommend anything to anyone, but this is, I think, worth a sup.

Well.
I "discovered it" on Portugal Vineyards web site, here...
http://www.portugalvineyards.com/wines/ ... to-de-baga

But I asked at my local (in Portalegre) wine shop if they could get it, and they had it within a couple of days at basically the same price.

According to their web site, Garrafeira Nacional have it, so if you find yourself in Lisbon (or do mail order)...
http://www.garrafeiranacional.com/2010- ... oroso.html

I forgot to mention originally - but be aware - that it's a 500ml bottle.

Almost forgot... we opened a 2006 Kopke Douro Reserva over the weekend while my parents were visiting. It was during the party on Saturday night, so I didn't get any feedback on it from anyone. But the bottle disappeared quickly so they must have liked it!

I had Chasing Harvest Douro DOC Vinho Branco 2012 at dinner on Saturday night: http://www.chasingharvest.com/assets/ch ... o-2012.pdf

Excerpt:

WINEMAKER’S NOTES:
Unique portuguese varietals including Gouveio, Rabigato, and Viosinho were hand harvested by ourselves and carefully sorted back
at the
winery before being gently pressed. After 36 hours of cold settling the wine was racked to neutral white french oak barrels
and similar to our reds fermented naturally with indigenous yeasts. The wines remained in barrel resting on its lees for 11 month
s.
A select amount of barrel stirring was employed to enhance the texture of the wine and introduce complexity.
Again, our choices in winemaking have attempted to create a Douro white of elegance. A wine that features crisp acidity to balance
its
creamy texture and we were careful to not allow the use of oak barrels overpower the complexity of the aromatics.
