Decanted 4.5 hours. The color is still very extracted and not showing any signs of age. A smokey bacon fat nose. Lots of tar, smoke, vanilla bean, and and black fruit. Moderate and drying tannins, both oak and grape, across the palate and finish which, like the palate, is long but linear. This has lost some of it's complexity and depth of its youth. While this is very enjoyable the more I have these older single varietal's from this time period the more I'm not sure how well they will hold up with age. Of course this was still the early days of modern high end Douro wines, and a time when Touriga Nacional was being touted the magical grape, so that may help explain. I've got a number of these left and I will chart how they continue to evolve over time.
