TN: 2005 Herdade do Mouchao Tinto Alentejo red

Post by Rune EG »

Read in various reports including FTLOP Five regions tour, that Mouchao is an interesting red wine producer in Alentejo, Portugal.
Managed to find a case of six bottles at the wine monopoly in Sweden.

Decanted 6 hrs (probably 5.0-5.5 hrs will be sufficient). Deep, deep dark red colour. Wonderful aroma of berries, oak and minerals. Full to medium body. Taste is very complex, rather “big”, powerful and to some degree smooth. Taste showing fruit, oak and tannins in nice harmony. Excellent balance acidity/sweetness. Very nice complex (and long) aftertaste. 95 pts.

They do make some stellar wines. Don't tell anyone lest the secret gets out.

They make a terrific Vinhos Liquoroso as well. Mainly Alicante Bouchet with some Touriga Nacional.
