Multi: Assorted Port & Douro wine TNs

Post by Frederick Blais »

I did not take any notes so I'll just give some impressions on the good stuff.

Alves de Sousa Quinta Vale Raposa 2001: Very nice and elegant wine, nose is very expressive with nice fruit and exotic spice flavours. Mouth as nice velvety tannins, very nice fruit and again the oak adds nice depth with this spicy finish. A bargain at 30$ can.

Carm Grande Eschola 2003: My last bottle, I have to get some more! This wine was less charming than the Vale Raposa but was showing nicer fruit and more structure. Still a bit close but should turn out excellent in 2-3 years.

Smith Woodhouse 1990 LBV: In my top 3 LBV, this wine was still showing youth with deep color slowly fading on the edge. Nose is expressive, floral, licorice and sweet plums are showing with dried figs and raisins with time. Mouth is velvety, really smooth, pure joy for a LBV with nice weight and concentration. Finish shows a few layers and is quite lingering. Again my last bottle and if I had more I'd open them in a years or two as it won't get any better.

Gould Campbell 2000 Vintage: From a half bottle tonight at the end of the meal. The color is dark ruby, almost opaque, nose shows great flavours of cherry, currant and floral tone. Mouth shows good concentration, still primary fruit flavors are showing, good finish on currant and chocolate flavors. Tannins are bold and well balanced with the structure. A good Port that I'd drink again in 10 + years.
