What Portuguese wine have you purchased this week...

Post by Frederick Blais »

Gonna start a topic for this too :)

It was a decent week for me on this side with the well sought after and hard to get Niepoort in this province. All I could get was:

12 Niepoort Sempar 2007
1 Niepoort Redoma Branco 2008
5 Niepoort Redoma Tinto 2006
2 Niepoort Charme 2007

How much are you paying for this?

Here in Quebec they are sold around 220-240$can, which I find way too much.

Hi Fred
According to wine search you can get both wines at £64.25 including all tax in the UK.

I forgot to write something on it. From memory, the nose was very good. Dark fruit, old wood, forest floor aromas, on the palate though fruit is very ripe but thin presence, acidity is strong and aromas are not persisting on this high acidity finish. Very rustic style as you would expect and I like it, but the palate was simply not delivering what the nose was. A bit of deception here.

Well during my little trip to London for the Malvedos tasting I felt like I won the lottery. Derek and I were wondering around the area of Berry Brother's Monday morning when we stumbled into a nice store that had a good wine selection. A low and behold they had a few bottles of the ultra rare 2004 Niepoort Robustus. I came home with a few more bottles than I anticipated [yahoo.gif]

Very cool Andy. Do you remember the name of the store? It's always good to add some stores to the list for future visits... :-)

Fortnum and Mason. Their wine store employee is from Portugal, and in speaking to him, it appears he is trying to get more Portuguese wines into the store. They had a nice selection of Crasto, Niepoort, Vale Meao, and a few others. Not super cheap by some UK standards, but not too expensive a store either.

There are some bottles you don't mind the price too much :) Robustus is one of them. As I only have one bottle of 2004-2005, I'm not sure when I'll open them, at least I try to refrain from the temptation... I haven't tasted 2005 yet from bottle.

This week was quiet,
