I agree these are not Port in the purist sense, but none-the-less they do make a nice sipping cocktail in the right setting. I've often served Port Tonics before dinners as a light starter drink before we dive into wine and everyone has loved it, even people who have said they hate Port. So they do have their place, with the right people and in the right setting.oscarquevedo wrote:To the most purists I must say that I don't think this is Port Wine, but a very nice cocktail made with Port.
I also think these kind of drinks don't put Port at risk, because they don't compete directly with Port at the moment you decide what to drink. As you say Andy, this is nice for a summer drink at the beach or for a party. While cocktails are temporal, Port is timeless.
Similar to the 'portonic' made with Croft Pink I had a couple of months ago at a 1994 Horizontal tasting. Even by itself, the "Pink Port" is not as much Port as it is a liquer made from the same grapes Port is.... bears the same name but undeservingly (IMHO).oscarquevedo wrote:To the most purists I must say that I don't think this is Port Wine, but a very nice cocktail made with Port. .
I don't recall, but I will see if I can find out.Scheiny S wrote:does anyone know what this was? the link is dead.
