1983 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

Post by Richard Henderson »

I opened a bottle of this fine port last Friday night. After 3 hours of decanting , very soft nice bouquet , baked dark fruit pastry nose with a very nice , not overpowering whiff of the brandy.
Soft rich mouthfeel and more of those baked berry pastry flavors, hints of nutmeg and cinnamon and butter and dough. A little alcohol kick but certainly not too hot. Coated the palate in a rich fine way. Nice long finish.
It had many delicate, subtle characteristics. I give it 92 points.

Thank you - a timely note as I've just ordered a bottle. Did you notice if the alcohol became even more integrated after 3 hours? The reason I ask is that my bottle will be opened when there are so many people around that it will disappear fast and I won't be able to monitor it for as long as I like to.

TIA,
Otto

It was fully integrated after 3 hours. It was never an overpowering alcohol note. It was very good 24 and 48 hours later.

Richard,
Thanks for the note. I'll be opening one of these up after Christmas dinner. I'm looking forward to it.
