Well, 60 hours down the line, I've just drawn a largish glass, and this is worthy of comment:

I've known VP's start a little sharp after decanting, then soften, then return to being a little sharp many times - but this is the first I can recall that has then softened again..!

This is now very smooth - with no sharp notes - and very integrated - it's coming over as a class player (at last!)

It now plays the part of a young '70 - a very good wine now.

If you have a spare bottle, try decanting it for at least two days..

This is really very surprising!

I think they are just a bit young!

I've had at least a bottle a year of '77 Grahams for the past 5 years and I think that they just need to wait until they are around 35-40 years old... at least that's what I keep telling myself because I have 6 bottles left in my cellar!

Did try '77 Taylors a couple of nights ago. Stunning stuff, if a little boozy and spice. Got a wee bit in the bottom of the decanter which I will polish off tonight....

The '77 Taylor is fabulous. My last notes are from a double magnum in late 2003. Very deep, still too young by 20 years (at least in this size bottle). As good as the Fonseca '77, but much better than the Graham's.

Well put me in the camp of liking the 77 Grahams. Clearly it's a misunderstood wine and the 3 bottles that I've tried over the last couple of years all started with different problems, either to hot or no nose or funky taste, but in the end it all came together for a very good but not spectacular drink. It may not compare to the 77 Taylor, but for half the price it's worth the money.

thanks

I finished off the '77 Taylors last night and it became a jammy, vanilla fest of a wine - almost too robust and punchy but wonderfully drinkable! Then went onto a bottle of Taylors LBV 2000.... oh dear! My tasting note for that may not do the wine justice!
