My parents had one opened this Christmas, not even decanted and was properly open for some days before I tasted it, for how little its worth with that treatment, it was okay but nothing complex and long lasting, so I think your assumption is correct.Allan Engelsted Laurents wrote:Bradley Bogdan:
It's really hard to go wrong with any VP or SQVP at under $20! Have you tried that wine before, or such a great price + the sentimental year you just had to buy?
Allan:
I have taught my daugther very well....She drinks really Big Ports with her dad.
But 1998 is not the greatest year for VPs. But for a comming wedding.....in 10'years time....the bottles could be suitable.
No I havnt tried the Burmester. But I was'nt sure, if this specifik VP has the power to hold on for more than 10-20 years?
I have the feeling, that I should give her the lot (2@6 bottles) much soner, than I would.
Maby I should try one bottle, and leave her with the rest?

The same merchant that sold the 1998 Burmester VP at 15$ a bottle had a one day offer today on the 1997 Burmester at 23$ a bottle, when grabbing 12 at a time. So I did.

The 85s got my attention at auction so I thought I should see if I could fill up a case...
1 x 1977 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port
2x 1985 Grahams Vintage Port
3x 1985 Warres Vintage Port
2 x 2003 Quinta do Vale Dona Maria Vintage Port
3 x 2003 Warres Vintage Port
I just got outbid at the end on another 85 Grahams which would have rounded it out nicely

Being in Denmark, and buying one bottle in Portugal.
In beautiful condition.
If anyone knows the true Story behind the Niepoort VV, please tell. I hear bits and pieces about the blend and the original juice being from 1863. But what is the Real content of the Bottle?
When the Mailmann comes with a parcel from Portugal, I am Allways exited.....Its a long journey.

Saw a 1/2 bottle of Warre's 2011 VP and snagged it.
Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
I scored a half-bottle of Sandeman Vau 1997 at Lisbon airport on my way to Germany last week - very disappointing - but, as a test, it served its purpose - I think I'm going to drink my stash of Vau 2011s rather than save them.
I'm drinking at pretty low levels - this week I picked up...
6 x Quinta do Noval Porto Black
6 x Quinta do Noval Porto LBV Unfiltered 2008
6 x Casa Stª Eufêmia Porto LBV 2009
6 x Casa Stª Eufêmia Porto Vintage 1999

Don't be too down on the Sandeman Vau 1997. I recently had the chance to try side-by-side the same wine from half, bottle, magnum and double magnum with halves sourced from Lisbon airport and from the UK. The Lisbon airport halves we pretty disappointing, the wine from bottle was lovely and spot on for drinking while the magnum and double magnum were still quite fresh and youthful although also very easy and enjoyable to drink.Roger L. wrote:I scored a half-bottle of Sandeman Vau 1997 at Lisbon airport on my way to Germany last week - very disappointing - but, as a test, it served its purpose - I think I'm going to drink my stash of Vau 2011s rather than save them.

Those are some nice bottles that you found. 1994 Fonseca is a fantastic Port, though it probably needs another 10-20 years to really shine.

Let me second that. You should introduce yourself over in this thread.Glenn E. wrote:Hi Jasper, welcome to FTLOP!
I don't recall that I've been to Enschede, but that name immediately sounded familiar to me. For a while I lived in Houten, just south of Utrect, and worked in Delft. I think the train I regularly took from Den Haag back to Utrect continued on to Enschede.

So in 2041, I'll bring the odd bottle to the horizontal tasting, along with a few others.
