1998 Quinta do Vesuvio. The LL auction had me thinking of Vesuvio, and I'd like to drink up some of these 1998s to make room for 1997 and possibly 1992.

I scored the 1997 two points higher than the 1998, and it tied the 1992 as my WOTN at this tasting: http://www.fortheloveofport.com/ftlopfo ... 12&t=17325 (Side note: That tasting should be split out into individual notes in the TNDB.) The 1998 is really coming around on the second night, however, so I can see it having some life too. Cálem 2000 VP.
Double-decanted. This was OK at first pop, but very hot, somewhat thin and with a lot of grip in the mouth. At D+2 it was starting to gain some meat, and lose some of the grip. At D+6 it still wasn't all that special, but very big in the flavour department. Now, at D+24 (I'm taking it to some friends for dinner in an hour) it's really become pretty nice - all soft dark fruits with a little honey and brown sugar, but not in a sickly way - deep dark purple, almost opaque, long legs - long long finish - some heat in the stomach. A very fruity port - which, luckily, is how I like them.

Oops, sorry about that!
Taylor 30 Year Old Tawny Port is the only port I've opened this week. Typical as this is a go to 'house pour' for us.
Currently on sale at Schneiders of Capitol Hill for $85 which is a great price for this bottle which commonly retails for $100-125.
Hopefully not too pedestrian for this crowd. :)

1977 Dalva VP, for my wifes' 38th birthday. On the first evening (about D+6) it had some heat, but that mellowed out nicely the following day(s). It also was very light in colour, lighter than any VP from the 70's that I've ever encountered.

Roy - I have 2 bottles of the 1964 Taylor Single Harvest Tawny Port and was looking for some TN's but did find them - did you ever post them?

I didnt open the bottles my self, but yesterday I enjoyed some Burmester Colheitas.
The Oldest and Best was the 1955er.
We had the 66, 75, 89 and the Colheita from 2000 aswell.
Nice journey. I do like my Port to be on the other side of 50 years old.

D+0: Chewy and hot. D+6: Heavy nose on alcohol, bilberries, violet, licorice - mouth is gentle power - thick, smooth, gentle heat, rich - long long finish. D+ 30: Nose is calmer now - long legs, purple, glass-staining - nice balance of black fruit, alcohol - slight chew - some stomach heat - just really nice in the mouth - long finish. This doesn't (yet) have some of the complexity of other 2011s I've tried, but nor is it so harsh.
