I NEED YOUR HELP

Post by Roy Hersh »

I will be boarding a plane in a couple of hours and hope you can help.

A friend that I will be seeing this weekend has a bottle of 1963 Barbeito Boal to sell or trade for. I am considering it. I have not looked for the bottle except on Winesearcher which drew a blank. I would appreciate the bottle's current value if you happen to have seen it recently and also what it might have been selling for either 5 or 10 years ago too. But most importantly is current value.

My thanks in advance!

Roy

About $250 at retail.
Clicking the link below will show you prices in the $4-600 range but my guess is that those are multiple bottle auction lots screwing up the data, $250 is basically market correct retail for pretty much any early-mid 60's Bual.
$175 in 2010 accord to the same link.

Brown Derby is offering a 1960 for $300. You scored the 1960 a 92 and the 1963 a 95 so that might make full pop retail closer to $300 for the 1963 but I'd certainly not be a buyer at that price because I've been buying late 1950's for ~300 at retail and sometimes 1930's at auction for just slightly more.

FYI: If an item is not currently listed for sale on WS you can still google search for it and usually find a link that will be named" Scores & History: XXXXXX" with XXXX being the wine you've searched on and this page will show you price the data you cannot access normally via the site.

I searched google for "1963 Barbeito Boal" and here's the WS data: http://www.wine-searcher.com/wine-13411 ... a-portugal

There's nothing listed on CT for the Wine Market Journal.

The D'Oliveiras 1968 is going for about $175 retail now. I can't see paying much more unless it's for the rarity value.

What a screw up, I meant 1863 ... jeez, I am meeting the guy in 3 hours. Damn!!!

I'll still take any info you can give on this. I can always tell him I need to think of it for another day or two.

When RWC last had it in stock a couple months ago, it was either $895 or $995
