Two openings for FORTIFICATION TOUR

Post by Roy Hersh »

If interested, email me for details. This will be a remarkable trip to Lisbon, Setubal, Madeira and the island of Porto Santo. Guaranteed to reward repeat visitors and newbies alike. Many great activities planned.

Why not give us some hint as to the date of the tour, Roy? Especially if it's at short notice?

Would this trip repay those who are interested in familiarizing themselves with the life, and culture of the small-town Portuguese(Madierese)? Or is the majority of activity oriented toward what technical wine geeks wmight be interested in?

Sorry John, missed the follow up here!

The tour is close at this point and we've only filled 10 of 12 places, but so be it. It is an incredible tour that begins in Lisbon, carries on in Setubal introducing our group to the amazing Moscatel de Setubal produced by Jose Maria da Fonseca, (no relation to Fonseca Guimaraens of Port fame). We will visit most of the best producers left on the island and some great folks that do not sell commerically. Also a side trip by ship to the adjacent isle called, Porto Santo exploring two grapes and vineyards and a couple of other fun things to see and taste whilst there. This is not really a geeks tour, but there is plenty to learn, as we provide a significant Masterclass that prepares guests for the rest of their stay on the island. We drink our share of some historic juice, check out lots of fine eateries etc. It is fun and a great learning experience and we've had many NON-geeks join us. This year we do have one major wine celebrity joining us as a guest which will make this even greater for the rest of the gang that will be coming.

Now I'm going to spend the next two weeks trying to figure out who it may be! :munch: 8--)

Any idea Eric?

I'd give you a hint, but it would be way too easy. [rotfl.gif]

Hmmm.
A well known critic or writer probably has been to the island already, and/or could set up appointments by themselves. I was thinking Squires or someone like him. So I guess that rules out critics and writers. Maybe a blogger.
But then, I remember meeting Morgan Twain-Peterson (of Bedrock winery and son of Joel Peterson of Ravenswood) at a Barbieto tasting in San Francisco some years ago. That opens up the possiblity of a wine producer.
I'm guessing a wine producer. Someone well known and from California. This is not too busy a time in a Northern Hemisphere winery. Could be anyone of a number of people. Maybe Morgan or someone of his generation. :scholar: [berserker.gif]
