Web-based Retailers

Post by Roy Hersh »

Whether you purchase Ports from a brick and mortar retailer or use their online service, (and who doesn't get bombarded by dozens of offerings per day) which are the web-based retailers that do the BEST and WORST job with Ports?
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

I'd say the best service and best quality bottles have come from European Wine Resource in Richmond, CA. Never the cheapest, but often close, and the bottles I've received have all been in excellent condition and have shown better than average, on the whole. Excellent service when requesting pictures, ship dates and methods, etc. This is all even more amazing considering the age and relative rarity of the bottles I've purchased from them, as old as 1948. It helps that they've owned much of their stock since release.

Less of a port focused place, but a place I've always been happy with as well is Wine Library out of NJ, they also run the Cinderellawine site. They are very accommodating on ship dates, etc. and have always provided bottles in excellent shape, though I've never bought 20+ y/o things from them.

I can't say I've ever had a bad online traditional retailer or flash deal site experience, just some average ones from other places.

I'm not affiliated with any of these sites other than being a happy customer.

I cleared out the Westhampton Fine Wine store last week. They were very accommodating on shipping prices as I was buying 18 bottles and always in constant communication. The bottle conditions were as listed, too.

Very nice store and a nice retailer; great cheese selection, too. Never have had a problem. However, their port selection has really fallen off IMHO....they used to have three pages, now just one and not much that is sexy.
Any Port in a storm!

Unfortunately, they don't ship to IL. :(
