I have long read about the ability of these wines to age for decades and the fact that the vineyards may be the closest of any to the ocean in the world. Hard to believe they could get much closer than Faja dos Padres in Madeira. However, this fine article talks more about Colares. We will definitely be going there during our 2016 5 Regions Tour!

I wanted to visit Colares on my recent trip, but didn't quite make it. Perhaps next time I'll spend a day around Sintra, and then make a visit. I did pick up an old bottle (1965 Gomes Reserva) at Garrafeira Nacional, which had a good number of older bottles that looked to be in good shape at a reasonable price. Of course that shop isn't cool where these bottles were ...
