Old Invalid from Sandeman

Post by Allan Engelsted Laurents »

I am not a fan of the modern "Old Invalid" from Sandeman, But came across this old bottle, I just needed in my fridge.
The label says: By appointment to his Majesty King George V.
Take a closer look at the label, it is quite interesting.

So it got me wondering whether "Old Invalids", could be made for War-veterans from WW1?

Digging in to the history of "the Old Invalid", it tells me, that more than a hundred years ago in England, port was on doctors Perscriptions.
Something like, one bottle a Day keeps the doctor away [cheers.gif]

I knew that Port is not just for pleasure :thanks:

Old Invalid from Sandeman

I love the bottom of the label "I consider it a Wine suitable for invalids, and for general consumption." That's basically FDA approval for therapeutic use of Port right? Haha.

As usual, another very interesting bottle, thanks for sharing!

.....and when it comes to port and wine I love old objects.

Great looking label, makes the new labels look boring by comparison. I didn't know there was a modern Old Invalid, have never seen it before.

Cheers.......................Mahmoud.
