Emerson, Lake & Palmer my favorite rock group while growing up ... keyboardist extraordinaire Keith Emerson is gone, from a likely suicide:

That's incredibly tragic. My favorite vinyl of my dad's for a few years was his copy of "Pictures at an Exhibition". I'll have to find a recording tomorrow and toast in his honor.

Bradley,
Your dad is likely around my age. If you look at my FB page, "Pictures ... " WAS my all-time favorite by ELP and in reality, anybody. I listened to it and Brain Salad surgery .. which I played incessantly to parent's chagrin and when I then got into pre-recorded tapes in 1970, first purchased was Carole King's Tapestry and second was 1971's "Pictures" by ELP.
I saw them play in six different states, more times than I can count ... indoors and outdoors over a 20 year period. I wore out vinyl versions and cassette pre-recorded tapes too. My youth was spent worshipping them and others in the genre, but none greater than ELP. So the effect of losing Emerson to depression yesterday, had me feeling blue all afternoon and night, playing every clip I could find on the web. Hopefully Keith has found some much needed peace, in death, where it clearly escaped him, in recent years of his life.
Last night I cracked open a 1970 Taylor, an homage to the first year I discovered ELP and sat amazed listening to Emerson's mastery of dueling baby grands, (C3 Hammond adorned by Robert Moog's latest wizardry) with the sweet angelic voice of Greg Lake and riffs and solos by the king of drums, Carl Palmer.

Roy - I'm touched by your thoughts about Keith Emerson. I listened to "Pictures" in his honor today.

I'm a little late here on this. Roy, you might want to check out a young blind lady playing a bunch of ELP's material if you haven't yet done so (Tarkus on Emerson's Moog here): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLT3Cb96-Mk There are many more of her videos besides this one. Pretty inspiring stuff.

What's with all the music people dropping dead recently? Now Prince at only 57 years old
