He was going great until the "Vintage Character" thing. Still, maybe it will get some to try.

Re: A Friendly Port
Isn't that the old name for Ruby Reserve? A little surprising that a new article would use the old name, though.Michael T wrote:I had never heard the Vintage Character designation but after doing some Googleing I found that name is quite common for Ruby and Reserve ports.John M. wrote:He was going great until the "Vintage Character" thing. If I'm not mistaken, "Vintage Character" is nowadays out of use but at one point in the past it was used to designate the "Rubys Reserve".Michael T wrote:I had never heard the Vintage Character designation but after doing some Googleing I found that name is quite common for Ruby and Reserve ports.John M. wrote:He was going great until the "Vintage Character" thing. To my knowledge it is out of use now.Mario Ferreira wrote:If I'm not mistaken, "Vintage Character" is nowadays out of use but at one point in the past it was used to designate the "Rubys Reserve".Michael T wrote:I had never heard the Vintage Character designation but after doing some Googleing I found that name is quite common for Ruby and Reserve ports.John M. wrote:He was going great until the "Vintage Character" thing. Re: A Friendly Port
Correct. Vintage Character isn't used anymore. The IDVP prohibited the use of the term starting in 2002. "Reserve" is used now.

That's what I thought too. I think it was better to call it as it actually is.Stewart T. wrote:Correct. Vintage Character isn't used anymore. The IDVP prohibited the use of the term starting in 2002. "Reserve" is used now.
Re: A Friendly Port
Here's the "Vintage Character" again. And this time "Quinta" too. The article is from last week:

Likely the author has based his research on outdated books !?Mika H wrote:Here's the "Vintage Character" again. And this time "Quinta" too. The article is from last week:

Re: A Friendly Port
i also thought it was odd that none of the Ports in the picture next to "Vintage Character" were that style. at least he listed names.
and he didn't mention that Tawnies get their color from aging in wood while rubies stay red because they age in the bottle.

Re: A Friendly Port
The regulation changed along with a few other categories of Port, where the nomenclature of those categories was changed shortly after the IVP turned into the IVDP to include Douro wine regulations, in 2003, but the IVDP changed category names in 2005.
