Wow, this is a wild turn of events, after a half decade of negative numbers we finally see a substantial increase for 2016, of 114,900 pipes or nearly 63 million liters. It was only a handful of years ago when the downturn went from a "recent" high of 110,000 pipes and hit 85,000. So the nearly 115 thousand pipes for this year's harvest is pretty spectacular. However, yields are expected to be lower than in 2015 and the month of August has been incredibly hot ... so the concentration of juice should be of high quality IF all goes well from here. Either way, this is very good news for grape growers in the Douro!
