Help on recommended tasting order for tasting

Post by D. Martinez »

Hello!

I will be offering a tasting for some friends this weekend. They are regular table wine drinkers with very basic knowledge about wine (mostly mainstream grape varietal drinkers like merlot, cab) and less knowledgeable on dessert wines.

I am planning to have a wine flight style tasting in this order:

1980 Vintage
20 Year Old Tawny
Reserve Ruby
Ruby

Do you think this order is correct. I will be recommending them to clear palate after each one before going to the next but want to make sure to start with the weakest or more fine wine.

Please let me know your recommendations. :P

Thanks a lot! :winebath:

I'd go in reverse; ending with the 1980 VP

Yes, reverse your original order.

I agree with Moses (and the others). Save the 1980 for last, as it's likely to be the nicest Port of the tasting.

Also, I've sent you an email, please respond ASAP.

Yes, those first two will hit your palate pretty hard, but the tawny will serve as a break/refresher before getting to the 1980.

I usually love the Ferreira 1980. A really excellent wine from that vintage. I had a four or five 1980 VPs while in Portugal and they are showing really well, although we did have one off bottle of the Sandeman.

Can you Seattleites use telepathy since you know it was a Ferreira 1980 vintage Roy? [friends.gif]
