Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
This is my first posting and it is a question for Jim S.
Was the 1870 JRT one of the "recorked by OP brothers" bottle, or is it a different bottling?

Yes, this was an 1870 Teixeira Terrantez OP Brothers recorked bottle. It was the group's #2 rated bottle out of the ten tasted.

1880 Blandy's Verdelho Solera. After the stupendous Ports of the past week, I was craving a Madeira.
Decanted last night, still with a bit of bottle stink today. Will give it a few more days in the decanter.

Did this have a "t-top" cork? If so, I think I had it twice, and both bottles were disappointing.Eric Ifune wrote:1880 Blandy's Verdelho Solera. After the stupendous Ports of the past week, I was craving a Madeira.

No, driven cork. I've seen several different labels of this. It is getting better in decanter. I'll write a tasting note in a couple of days.

1983 MEF Verdelho. It was even better than I remembered from cask sampling.

Re: What Madeira Have You Opened This Week?
Gary - How did the two compare to each other? I tried the verdelho at H&H on the island a few months ago, thought it was very good but overshadowed by some of the other wines I was drinking. Recently picked up the boal at auction, but have yet to try it.Gary Banker wrote:1898 H&H boal solera

Opened a Barbeito 10yr sercial yesterday. Thought it would go well with prosciutto, and indeed it did.
