Seemed cooked. Cloudy. Cork was just fine--longer than most and tight--bottle looked beautiful. I suspect is was exposed to heat/bad storage.Andy Velebil wrote:What happened to the Mina?John M. wrote:Friday Night:

Bummer was hoping to having your impression of this rarely seen Port. I love seeing notes on things one doesn't see or hear about much.John M. wrote:Seemed cooked. Cloudy. i'm on the other side, in Pittsburgh. but i was shocked to find it because we have almost no selection out here. i've talked to the wine specialists in two different stores [Andrew in East Liberty and the Robinson Specialty store and Jeff in the Oxford Center specialty store Downtown, if that matters to anyone], they both say they always order stuff, it just doesn't come in. i ran into Jeff Downtown today who told me that it sells out here which i didn't realise, whereas it doesn't sell out East so Philly, Lancaster, even the middle of the state like Harrisburg are sitting on cases and cases of a variety in their stores. i'm sure they have it out there. check the Wine and Spirits website [such as it is *shudder*] to see where it is. if it somehow happens to all be out here, have them transfer it. bust specifically ask for UPS, the specialist today told me it costs a couple bucks but it'll get there within a week while the stores' own transfer system takes about a month. i didn't even know UPS is an option! it ships to the store, not your house, but it's the only way to pre-pay. that way if you can't get there for a week or two they won't put it out on the shelf [they hold transfers for about a week].John M. wrote:I'm 20 minutes away from PA---got to get a couple of these!Andy Velebil wrote:I think some of us Port geeks convinced them to make oneScheiny S wrote:Quevedo's Crusted. i didn't know they make one.

Re: What have you opened this week?
I brought a 1985 Churchill to my local tasting group. Not that many there are in to port.
But it got several great reviews by guys with good palates.

Welcome back Cliburn!
It seems like it has been many years. One of the originals has returned to our flock.
Glenn is also a fan of the 1985 Churchill's as we were talking about this fairly recently.
I hope you will come back to post here on occasion. Thanks for stopping by.

Nice line up!
Re: What have you opened this week?
On Saturday The High Bridge Port Club will meet...here is the lineup:
Flight One:
1995 Smith Woodhouse Madelena VP
1996 Taylor Fladgate Quinta de Vargellas VP
1996 Sao Pedro Das Aguias VP (Not a note here about this brand other that some older TWAIOA and certainly no VPs)
2000 Sao Pedro Das Aguias VP
Flight Two:
2007 Quinta do Noval Single Quinta LBV
2011 Quinta do Crasto LBV
2011 Taylor Fladgate LBV
The Sao Pedro Das Aguias bottles I am excited to try since these appear obscure. The other two VPs I've had before and should be fine. At to the LBVs the Crasto is excellent, the other two I have not had in these vintages.

Re: What have you opened this week?
Apparently I didn't take notes on these, but I purchased a few last year and commented in the forum somewhere. I bought one and thought it well worth the $20-30 I paid for it, so I bought some more. I still have two of the 1996 and one of the 2000, so I look forward to your impressions.John M. wrote:1996 Sao Pedro Das Aguias VP (Not a note here about this brand other that some older TWAIOA and certainly no VPs)

Re: What have you opened this week?
1986 Quinta do Panascal VP
After removing the aluminium capsule it became clear the bottle had suffered from some leaking. The capsule had kept the leaking all underneath, the rest of the selo was still clear white. I'll post a little pic of it.
At first, I was worried that the bottle would be affected, but after some time in the decanter it turned out all ok
