Which country has more land planted to grapes than any other?

Hint: It has 3 official wine regions that possess a D.O.C. designation.

I know, I know....

Oh. Where's France in the list? And where's the UK? Doesn't anyone know the UK is a major wine producer, selling wine all over the South East of England!

I am sure I read somewhere that a man in Aberdeen has managed to cultivate the first Scottish vine - it produces 3 grapes during the summer period, which around lunchtime on the 24th July each year.

We just have to wait another 50 years or so and global warming will boost his production and wipe out all existing wine producing regions of the world - apparently Petrus have already secured an option on the southern slopes of Glen Coe :?

Fred, perhaps you should take out a patent on Canadian wine - it will be worth a fortune in a few decades time

Derek,

Do you have any idea how many wineries are currently in Canada? I have had some GREAT dessert wines from there too.

Roy,

Wineries in Canada  are you mad :? - us Brits have been brought up to believe that Canada is covered with snow and is patrolled by polar bears - a bit like Aberdeen, only more snow and less polar bears!

OK - tell me where I can buy Canadian wine in Europe and I will believe you.

You'll probably not be able to buy canadian wines appart from Iniskillin Ice wine.

If you want to find some, I'd suggest Mission Hill wines from Okanagan valley, one of my favorites.

Only 5 of 12 of you got the right answer. Two probably looked it up on Google and took 1/2 of their time in doing so!

Congratulations to those of you who got the answer right: SPAIN
