2012 Fonseca Guimarens VP

Post by Bradley Bogdan »

Opened from 375ml

Decanted 24+ hours

Color is as dark as young VP is. It has lost the most purple of edge, working into its firmly pitch dark ruby stage.

Nose is a bit tight, some heat and some blackberry jam.

Palate is full of tannin, obviously killed a baby here. The abundance of dark fruits makes it worth it though, full of blackberries, currants, pomegranates, raspberries, blueberries and a bit of clove to keep it from all fruit and fruity jam. This isn't showing enough to make me think it'll be a 95+ point stunner in the future, but it's showing plenty to make me know it's yummy now (if you like tannin and infanticide) and enough that it'll be much better in the future.

90 pts, just at the moment though. It'll score higher as it smooths with age.
