1997 Porto Souza Vintage Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Tasted blind. Smells slightly of musty barnyard, on a strong backbone of prune, plum, fig—oxidized fruit. More concentrated flavor than anything else tasted yet. (This was #5 after 1997 Smith Woodhouse, Caves Messias Quinta do Cachão, Quinta das Heredias, and Delaforce Quinta de Corte.) There is some of the oxidized fruit in the mouth, and I don’t think this will last as long as the previous wine (the Delaforce). Consider tasting again sooner, like in 5-10 years. Pretty nice now as is, with fig jammy goodness. There is a slight bit of that Ficklin oxidation. 93 points.
