2006 Quinta do Crasto LBV Port

Post by John M. »

Red Brick rim with a darker core; very clear. Moderate weight. Dry dusty nose, yet subdued. In the past I've gotten berry, but this seems to have disappeared in the aging process. A bit of rhubarb and a faded yet distinct mint, grass note at the end. Faded red fruits with a hint of plum. The finish is still short and dry. An easy drink, this certainly has evolved a bit since last having 3 years ago, yet it is going to always be a bit on the simple side and not one of the better Crasto LBVs. It still has some further aging potential. A good casual sipper.

I was served this port about three or four years ago and was quite impressed with it at the time. Seems you were too and I'm grateful to get a vicarious update.

Cheers ............. Mahmoud.

2006 was a tough vintage. Crasto was one of those producers that did quite well regardless of the conditions. Even their dry wines are very nice from this year.
