NV Taylor Fladgate 325th Anniversary Special Reserve Tawny Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

This comes in a really neat old style onion bottle. Despite some creative wording, this is nothing more than a NV Reserve Tawny. Based on the mostly redish with a little brown color, this is probably pretty close to the minimum age of 7 years to be a tawny. Some fresh strawberries and alcohol on the nose. Thin and a bit harsh due to the disjointed brandy. Though strawberries and menthol are pleasant. Rather straight forward and simple and would make a good "Monday night" Port. I bought solely for the aforementioned bottle and wasn't concerned about the contents.

I'll sell you some empty bottles if you want them, say $30 each?

I had this wine on a few occasions already. I was really enthousiast to taste it, as they were promoting a blend from the best barrels that normally are kept for the 10,20,30,40 yo tawny. The price tag also was suggesting something between the 10 and the 20. So I was expecting something around 15years of age in the bottle. I was disapointed, because of my expectation. If it was served blind to me, I would have thought it was a ruby. There is so much red in there for a tawny. The result is simple but very drinkable! I'd give it 88 in points system.

Didn't WE gives this some stupid high score of like 94 points? Gotta wonder what the heck that reviewer was thinking. It's nowhere close to that score.
