This was an extraordinary experience. Normally when a colheita or tawny is having a distinct citrus taste at start, I find that for most of them the citrus is growing/increasing during the consumption and by the end it is not so pleasant. For this bottle it was completely the opposite!
Bottled 2014 (= 39 years). Decanted 1.5 hr. Next time I will go for 2 hrs. Quite deep amber colour, nearly dark brown. Tiny bit cloudy, but not disturbing. Fresh aroma of citrus and wood. Full body. Powerful and elegant (emphasizing the elegance). Well-structured colheita. Strong, nicely polished tannins with well-integrated citrus, oak and minerals. The elegance stayed on throughout the consumption of the bottle. Well-balanced acidity/sweetness. Long aftertaste where the citrus was dominating in the first sip, but then became less and less evident. 96 pts.
