1984 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port

Tasted at a Mardi Gras party after too much food and other drinks. But there's always room for a glass of Port, right?

The cork nearly pushed into the bottle while we were trying to extract it, which was an ominous sign. It was very loose, and also fairly weak. (Despite nearly pushing in while trying to insert the worm, the cork then broke in two while being extracted.)

The Port was light pink in color - even less color than, say, a Croft Pink Port. Much closer to a French Rose, and even on the light side of that. Confusingly, the nose was still quite pleasant yielding strawberries, some light alcohol, and a hint of either caramel or a darker stone fruit like plum. The palate was soft and pleasant, but clearly oxidized and tertiary. Tasted blind I might have rated this and given it mid to upper 80s as it really was pleasant and easy to drink, but knowing that it was a VP I didn't give it a score.
