Interesting comments in their comparison to 2015. I've heard similar from some other producers. 2015/2016 is almost like 1991/1992. Time will tell which generally holds up better in the long haul.
It was a particularly challenging year. We really had to make use of our profound knowledge of the grapes and vines, as each variety and each plot of vineyard developed at a different pace.
Generally speaking, the 2016 Vintage Ports are brimming with colour and full of structure, with a profile that is more concentrated, robust and intense when compared to the 2015 Vintages. A classic style for a Vintage.
I asked Gustavo and he confirmed that they will be making Quinta do Vesuvio, Quinta do Vesuvio Capela, Quinta do Roriz, Graham's Stone Terraces and Smith Woohouse as well as those depicted in the picture.

Which to me sounds like the calling card of Sousao in a very young VP. I believe I heard that Nacional sometimes contains as much as 30% Sousao, so that would make sense.

With the Nacional being a field blend, they don't control the proportions of the grape varieties in the juice, do they? And the juice isn't mixed with anything else besides the juice from this particular parcel with the legendary vines?
Today i got the first prices for a 2016 Vintage Port. It is the Kopke 2016 Vintage Port. We will be selling at €44,95 enprimeur.
I tasted the 2016 vintage port (cask sample) @ Prowein, it confirmed me again that Kopke keeps on improving with there vintage ports.
