Quinta das Lamelas 30 Year Old Tawny
(Bottled 2014.) The aroma shows some spirit, but also more aged wood character than the previously tasted 20 and 10 year old tawnies. There may be VA. There are definitely aromas of maple syrup, cherry, caramel, cinnamon, and leather. That lemon varnish noticed in the 20 shows up here as well. This is also warm in the finish, but more nicely integrated with the sweet fruits and sugar. This is a distinct step up from the 20 year old. The acid is a little too light to prohibit getting beaucoup points, but a good overal integration of flavors. This is better than the Quinta dos Corvos 30, which I think is this case is saying something. It is at least in the third quartile of 30 year old tawnies. 92 points.

Of the 10-20-30-40 typical Tawny Ports ... the 30 was my favorite.

I liked the 40 better and scored it higher, but as is often the case, I suspect this 30 has a better QPR.Roy Hersh wrote:Of the 10-20-30-40 typical Tawny Ports ... the 30 was my favorite.

I came to a similar, albeit less well-informed, conclusion - and correspondingly ordered a case upon my return home, with the lot being consumed with indecent despatch.Roy: Of the 10-20-30-40 typical Tawny Ports ... the 30 was my favorite.
