2011 Alves de Sousa vintage port

Post by Rune EG »

Had many of these 3-4 years ago. Wanted to check whether it was still excellent or whether it had entered the closed phase. Although not 96-97 level, we gave it a good 95 pts.

6 hrs decanting (will go back to the usual 8 hrs next bottle). Deep purple colour. Powerful aroma of especially berries, but also some floral notes. Full body. Powerful and elegant, explosion of various items such as berries (cherries), oak, minerals, floral and hints of herbs. Well-structured and stayed solid throughout the taste. Nicely balanced acidity/sweetness. Medium length aftertaste. 95 pts.

Argh this has been on my wanted list for a long time.

Just don't seem to be able to find any.

We can't find any of their wines in my locale. Port and dry wine with Portuguese sounding names do well around here too.

Thomas, if you check
http://www.171.dk
you will find a Danish whole saler/trader that seems to have them in stock.
His name is Roberto Salvo.

Such a gorgeous young VP.

But only a 6 hour decant?

This is a standout and a must-have-a-case in the cellar for any serious Port lover under 50.

Hi Roy!
As you could see from my tasting note I included in brackets: "will go back to the usual 8 hrs next bottle"
We tested out 6 hrs, but 8 hrs is the thing.
