1948 Niepoort Garrafeira port

Post by Rune EG »

Tasted at a lunch with Dirk Niepoort at Niepoort’s Quinta de Napoles 28th May 2018.
Aged in pipes for 4 years, then put into 7 liters demi johns in 1952 until 1973. Bottled into 75 cl bottles 1973.
Decanting time unknown. Medium to dark brown colour. Fantastic complex aroma consisting of herbs, nuts, tobacco and some leather. Marvelous balance acidity/sweetness. This is a well-structured port. Taste showing tobacco, caramel, figs and hints of liquorice. Long aftertaste. I am pleased to have had the opportunity to taste this Garrafeira. 96 pts.
